2026 UACES Committee Elections
Are you passionate about shaping the future of UACES and the wider European Studies community? Do you have the commitment and drive to take on a key role within the UACES Committee?
UACES invites nominations for dedicated UACES members to join the Committee starting 1 September 2026. Please note that Group Members of UACES are not eligible to stand or vote in elections.
We are seeking UACES members to fill the following crucial positions:
- UACES Secretary
- UACES EDI Officer
- Two Committee Members

The Roles Available

- UACES Secretary
As one of the four Officers of UACES, the Secretary plays a pivotal role in the strategic, governance, legal and financial matters of the organisation.
You will:
- Chair the Events working group meetings, ensuring all members are active and engaged.
- Be the member's representative on the Committee for items relating to membership and events.
- Support the Chair on all major appointments and probation reviews at the UACES office.
- Represent UACES at meetings, conferences, interviews or published statements.
- Advocate for and pursue strategic partnerships that support UACES' charitable objectives.
- Deputise for the Chair when necessary.
Commitment:
- Attend three Committee meetings per year (two in-person, one virtual).
- Attend four Officers' meetings per year (mainly in-person).
- Chair at least three Events working group meetings per year.
- Additional UACES business is conducted via email and informal Teams meetings as required throughout the year.
Term: 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2029.
If elected, you will also become a Trustee of UACES, a registered Charity in England and Wales (No: 1163773).

- UACES EDI Officer
As one of the four Officers of UACES, the EDI Officer plays a pivotal role in the strategic, governance, legal and financial matters of the organisation.
You will:
- Chair the EDI working group, ensuring all members are active and engaged.
- Be the member's representative on the Committee for items relating to the UACES EDI policy and raise awareness of wider EDI matters across UACES.
- Advocate and promote good practice within EDI and report on performance against the UACES EDI policy.
- Monitor EDI performance across the organisation and prepare, review and report on the UACES EDI policy and action plan.
- Represent UACES at meetings, conferences, interviews or published statements on EDI matters.
- Deputise for the Chair when necessary.
Commitment
- Attend three Committee meetings per year (two in-person, one virtual).
- Attend four Officers' meetings per year (mainly in-person).
- Chair at least two EDI working group meetings per year.
- Additional UACES business is conducted via email and informal Teams meetings as required throughout the year.

- Two Committee Members
Join the Committee of Trustees and play a key role in shaping the direction and policies of UACES, contributing to the advancement of European Studies.
You will:
- Collaborate with UACES Officers, Committee members and the UACES office.
- Uphold the UACES constitution and ensure the delivery of its strategy and charitable objectives.
- Be a proactive member of UACES working groups and support the promotion and delivery of UACES member benefits.
- Be responsible for governance, legal and financial matters of UACES.
Commitment
- Attend three Committee meetings per year (two in-person, one virtual).
- February meetings will be virtual; October and June meetings will be held in-person.
- Participate in at least one UACES working group.
- Additional UACES business is conducted via email and informal Teams meetings as required throughout the year.
Term: 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2029.
